Playstation 5: The Best Announcement of 2020
I remember when Playstation 2 was coming out and how it changed the gaming world. Sony’s Playstation (I) was not only competing with the tried and true goliaths of the gaming world Nintendo and SAGA, it was giving them a run for their money.
However Playstation 2 was going to be the biggest leap in graphics since the Nintendo 64 allowed for a first-player visual angle. The design was something to brag about as well. There was a time when making technology smaller was the trend of the era however Sony decided to make the Playstation 2 larger than its predecessor. Additionally the new design was sleek and black and unlike before it was capable to stand vertically. Finally when it came down to graphics it didn’t disappoint.
While the Playstation (I) was revolutionary with the toggle controllers and impressed with an exclusive catalogue of games that would become all-time classics, the graphics were still contemporary for its time. Now, more than 25 years later, there have been leaps and bounds in technology and graphics and Playstation has recently announced its new console Playstation 5.
Sony announced this week that the next generation was coming but while there is a huge buzz and excitement for it, there are a few important peculiars that are still unknown. The launch time is vaguely described as “Holiday 2020” and so far there are only speculations on the cost. Currently there are rumors circulating that the cost will be around the $500 range although Playstation has not confirmed this amount.
Here is what we have been told about the new system:
Design
The design has stepped away from the conventional rectangular shape of the first two Playstation systems but it continues to embrace the horizontal standing method which first appeared in Playstation 2. It has an amalgam of rounds and edges, and everything veers off in a curve. The color of the processor is black, which has been the lone color applied to every playstation since 2, however it generates a blue neon light and is sandwiched between two Apple-white panels.
Speed
Naturally in a world connected to the internet processing speed has become a major component to the function of a console. Playstation is boasting that its latest edition to its pantheon of consoles is a custom CPU, GPU, and SSD for fastest speeds.
Controls
DualSense controllers colored black with white trim and the blue glow between the analog sticks and the buttons.Wireless of course and comes with a charging station. A built in mic for chatting and the classic Share button has been replaced with a Create button.
Graphics and Games
Reviews are pouring in about the graphics from a video of the new spiderman game (Spiderman: Miles Morales) which is a highly anticipated sequel and promotes a tremendous game with state of the art graphics. The video also features old favorites Ratchet & Clank, Gran Tourismo, and more.
There are also reports of an HD camera, headphones, and an entertainment remote (like a small fire stick) are to be launched with the console as well. All in all Playstation appears to be firing on all creative cylinders and its audience is anxiously counting down to the drop date.
