DTNA to Begin Producing Electric Semi-trucks

Daimler Trucks North America LLC (DTNA) is all set to launch the much-awaited Freightliner Customer Experience (CX) Fleet for its electric truck program. The company has even begun to take orders for the same. The line of the completely electric pre-series trucks will comprise of the company’s six heavy-duty Freightliner eCascadias and two medium-duty eM2 trucks.

What Will Be The Specifications Of The DTNA’s Electric Trucks?

The trucks will sport some remarkable features. For one, the Detroit ePowertrain will power them, which provides nearly 23,000 lb-ft of torque. This will also give it enough power for eCascadia’s GCWR of almost 82,000 lbs.

Furthermore, the trucks are reported to have the maximum range specification of 230 miles for the medium-duty eM2 model and 250 miles for the heavy-duty eCascadia model.

The eCascadia will be a Class 8 truck that is primarily designed for local and regional distribution. On the other hand, the medium-duty eM2 is aClass 6/7 truck built to support local distribution, including food delivery, pickup services, and last-mile logistics applications.

The Daimler Trucks North America confirmed that they have already put their electric trucks through the real-world trial for about 750,000 miles.

To achieve this feat, the vice president, Richard Howard, showed immense gratitude to the company’s customers. They tested and continued to test both the eCascadia and eM2 models through the Freightliner Electric Innovation Fleet and Customer Experience Fleets.
